The History of Clean
The genesis of C.L.E.A.N. traces back to the tragic passing of my 18-year-old nephew, Amol Bilal, on June 5, 2005. Overwhelmed by grief, Anthony Daniels, in the midst of his sorrow, found inspiration and a profound calling to support the youth in Berkley and Southside communities, where he resides
Responding to this need, Anthony Daniels rallied residents from Berkley and neighboring areas to establish C.L.E.A.N. (Citizens Learning & Educating About Neighborhoods), a mentoring and tutorial program, in June 2005. A core principle of Daniels’s vision is a resolute dedication to guiding young individuals away from negative pursuits by providing positive exposure through mentoring, tutoring, and fostering both academic and life skills.
In 2006, Anthony Daniels, in collaboration with The Beacon Light Civic League, initiated the annual scholar program in honor of Berkley historians Matthew Austin & George Banks, specifically designed for students in Berkley and surrounding neighborhoods.
Proudly, with the backing of our sponsors and through youth fundraisers led by Anthony Daniels, we’ve awarded over fifty scholarships. Anthony Daniels cordially invites you to explore our program. With 18 years of unwavering commitment to community service, he is confident you will find it compelling.
How We Make A Difference
The C.L.E.A.N. program focuses on students in upper elementary and middle school grades who reside in the Berkley and Campostella communities. These students receive free assistance aimed at improving their grades, along with guidance and encouragement to complete homework assignments. We actively encourage both students and parents to participate in fundraising projects that support enrichment outings, educational activities, and the cultivation of teamwork among students.
C.L.E.A.N. programs are tailored to motivate young adults, guiding them from risk to opportunity. Through structured activities, our goal is to nurture the development of self-esteem, confidence, and a positive mindset.
How We Make An Impact
C.L.E.A.N. offers a program segment called ‘Real Lyfe,’ providing motivational and inspirational leadership for youth based on real-life situations. The objective is to equip them with skills to navigate adverse circumstances. Through role-playing, we address issues like resisting drugs, crime, gangs, and other challenges affecting our youth. Additionally, we organize tours to Norfolk City Courts and jails to showcase the consequences of criminal behavior and the importance of obeying the law.
Furthermore, C.L.E.A.N. conducts workshops on job interviews, completing applications, and offers mock interviews, assistance with resumes, and applications. We also organize positive field trips that expose participants to different cultures and address social concerns.
Mission
C.L.E.A.N exists to assemble a community of young educated, leaders to pursue their dreams as we rise above all odds and maintain hope, dignity, and wealth to our neighborhood
Vision
C.L.E.A.N will be a highly respected organization that changes the lives of students and
